Known as the "Jewel in the Crown of Angus," Edzell is the perfect destination for those seeking tranquility, stunning scenery, and a taste of Scotland’s rich heritage.
A Village Steeped in History
Edzell has a fascinating past, with roots tracing back to medieval times. One of its most iconic landmarks is Edzell Castle, a striking red sandstone ruin that dates back to the 16th century. Once the home of the Lindsay family, the castle is renowned for its beautifully preserved walled garden, adorned with intricate stone carvings and ornamental flower beds. History enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the ruins and imagining the grandeur of the estate in its prime.

Despite its small size, Edzell offers a range of attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy. A stroll along the historic Dalhousie Arch, which marks the entrance to the village, sets the tone for a warm and welcoming experience. The main street, lined with quaint shops, cafes, and traditional Scottish pubs, is perfect for a leisurely wander.
For nature lovers, the surrounding countryside offers excellent opportunities for walking and wildlife spotting. The River North Esk runs alongside the village, providing scenic spots for picnicking. For those who enjoy more adventurous pursuits, the nearby Cairngorms National Park is a must-visit. Just a short drive from Edzell, the park boasts rugged landscapes, rolling hills, and an abundance of hiking trails. Popular activities in the Cairngorms include hillwalking, mountain biking, and wildlife watching, with opportunities to spot red deer, golden eagles, and other native species.
